Restless Hunger

by BryAnna

My stomach is growling.
It hurts so badly.
Mom says we won’t be able to eat today.
Dad says the pain won’t last forever.
My brothers and sisters cry all night.
They are too young to feel this pain.
I want to help them, but how?
School is difficult, especially with an empty stomach.
My mind can’t learn; it’s focused on other things.
Tonight maybe I can find something in the trash.
Then I can sleep.
