Gulfside Empowering Community For Change

Gulfside Seminar Participants

July 2011

Gulfside empowering community for change

Gulfside we got a history to claim

Gulfside flattened by the hurricane

Guflside, the foundation still the same

Some people lost

Some people gained

Look at Thad Cochran

His house still the same

FEMA gave checks

Red Cross too

How many you got

I got two

Ebony sell crack

Ivory sell powder

Ebony get the time

While Ivory just fine

Five years later,

Ebony plead out

Who’s on the board

Ivory no doubt

Repeat Chorus

Children and Seniors are lacking dough

Rebuilding their homes is moving too slow

Choosin’ tween kids who need seeds to grown

And seniors tilled the soil to whom we owe

Too many people takin guidance from below

Mixed up priorites are stealing the show

Raising our voices like we’ve done befo’

Reclaiming the vision of the one who glows

Repeat Chorus

Gulfside, the buildings are gone

Gulfside, but the spirit lives on

Gulfside, a family, community

Gulfside, still giving opportunity

First night to fun night, to college tours it’s all right

Gulfside, it’s a beacon of light.

From the beginning, a place of possibility

Continuing to be, a place of unity.

Repeat Chorus Twice
