Untitled

by a Dakotas Conference Youth
July 2009

I am the reason why the orphaned child smiles.
The single mother who has three jobs and too many bills
is at peace, because she has me.
The confused teen goes for a time without me.
When people seem to be in the darkest night,
they have stares because they have me.
The old woman with black and wrinkled skin,
with lonely eyes and a feeble voice,
has my potential within her.
When a person has me, they find they can bear
all the oppressions, transgressions, depression,
the unfairness and desperation.
Thos who have me have light in their eyes
even when all around them is in shadow.
I am Hope.
