The Monuments

The Monuments

…are beautiful
People come from everywhere to remember the great
Presidents and war heroes
They don't see, however, the other monuments

To the immigrants who struggled in poverty,
To the blacks who still overcome segregation,
To the students who stay in school even though they aren't learning
because of a lack of textbooks,
to the workers not paid a living wage to keep the monuments clean,

There are people, human beings…Heroes.
